Is Complaining Worth It?

Happy Friday! Welcome to the Iron Made Gym Newsletter. Our goal with this production is to share information with our unique community that will help you reach your goals.

Seeing so many people during the day it fascinates me the responses I get when the question “How is your day going? How are you?” is proposed. We are blessed to interact with such a diverse group of people both inside our four walls and out. I have been able to see adults working swing shifts and grabbing overtime, a college student working THREE summer jobs to decrease his debt upon graduation, athletes participating in three hour practices, and some whom their only time doing anything physical during the day is when they come train.

Their answers vary from a quick and predetermined “Good, how are you?” to “I am so tired, today is terrible!” So what determines this? Some points to consider:

-An emotion only lasts 90 seconds. It is how we choose to react which determines our demeanor. Choose wisely.

-The people who have a purpose for their hard work, are more likely to succeed. The husband working while his family sleeps, the college student working harder than three of his friends combined, the athlete willing to address his weaknesses instead of hide them.

My biggest pet peeve, complaining. What purpose does it serve? How does complaining get you closer to your goals? The fact is that complaining is a waste of time. It becomes infectious in a team/work environment. By complaining, you have already lost the ‘game’.

Flip the switch in your head, it’s a mental game. Your tired, get more sleep! You have an excess of tasks to accomplish, prioritize and/or ask for help. You don’t like how you look/feel, you are in control! As Mark Twain said, “The secret to getting ahead it to get started.” Be encouraging with your words, choose wisely, think before reacting, serve other with compassion and generosity, expect nothing in return, and remember it starts in your head.
